The first foundation in place for Anholt Offshore Wind Farm
2 January 2012At 6.58 pm on the last day of 2011 the first foundation for Anholt Offshore Wind Farm was firmly planted in the seabed. This marked the first installation of a total of 111 foundations that MT Højgaard is to install at the site.
The 111 foundation have different sizes and consist of monopiles which are between 37 and 55 meters long with a diameter of about 5.35 meters and they weigh 267 to 467 tons.
The foundations are being produced in Aalborg. Here they are plugged at both ends, which make them able to float, and afterwards a tug transports them to the site in the Kattegat off Anholt.
Here lies the large crane ship Svanen, which raises the foundations into a vertical position and hammers them about 25 meters into the seabed. The crew at Svanen began installing the first foundation at 5 am and the task lasted just under 14 hours.
At each pile foundation MT Højgaard must also attach a transition piece which weighs about 200 tons.
