Groundbreaking ceremony for a new community centre in Norway
9 February 2012In Norway we have just held the groundbreaking ceremony for a new community centre, which we are constructing as a design-build project.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the new community centre in Hurum Municipality was held last week in the presence of the mayor, Monica Vee Bratlies, and the deputy mayor, Gunn-Torill Homme Mathisen.
We are constructing Hurum's community centre as a design-build project. The building will have an eco-friendly profile and will be a low energy building. We are handling project management ourselves, while a number of local subcontractors will be involved in the construction work.
The community centre will have a total floor area of 2,900 square metres on three floors. The municipal hall will be the building's attraction, and will not only be used for political meetings, but will also function as a cultural centre for local citizens.
We are a month ahead of schedule, and the community centre is expected to be completed in December 2012.
- There will be a brief period of noise, but we have a good dialogue with the immediate neighbours, and I am sure that things will go well during the construction period, says project manager Jimmy Quist.
