MT Højgaard to design and build waste water treatment plant in Bangladesh
22 February 2010MT Højgaard has been awarded a contract in Bangladesh worth EUR 84m (DKK 626m) in a 50/50 consortium with the French company Dégremont for DWASA (Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority), which is 90% financed by Danida (The Danish International Development Agency) and 10% financed by the Government of Bangladesh.
The most important part of the project is designing and building a conventional waste water treatment plant which can treat up to 225m litres of surface water a day. The project also includes the construction of a large pre-treatment plant with a capacity of up to 450m litres a day.
In addition to the waste water treatment plant the project also includes the design and construction of a 10.3 km long distribution pipe system through the streets of the country’s capital Dhaka. The contract includes the design and building of administrative facilities as well as operation and maintenance of the plant for a three-year period.
- We are pleased with the project, which suits MT Højgaard’s competences and wide experience with waste water treatment plants well, also in the Asian area, says Jan Andersson, Area Manager in MT Højgaard.
– We have previously carried out projects in Bangladesh. Most recently a power supply project in 2007. And our experience from our previous cooperation with Dégremont is good, so we know that they will also solve their part of the project professionally, says Jan Andersson.
The contract is expected to contribute beneficially to MT Højgaard’s earnings during the construction period, which begins in April 2010 and will be completed at the end of 2012.
