Slip form casting of a 53 metre high silo

MT Højgaard carried out the slip form casting of a 53 metre high concrete silo for Yara, the world's largest supplier of fertiliser. The silo, which was constructed at Yara's factory in the Swedish town of Köping, has a diameter of 10 metres. 45 tons of armouring and 520 m³ of concrete was used to construct it.

Large-scale slip form casting

Rambøll, which designed the silo, contacted MT Højgaard regarding the task since we are known for our strong competences in large-scale slip form casting. For example, we have previously constructed two 150 metre high chimneys at Amager Power Station and Avedøre Power Station.

Slip form casting is a process where a form is used into which a steady stream of concrete is poured at the same time as the form is slightly lifted as the concrete sets.

Steel work for change in production

MT Højgaard also executed steel work since the silo would be used as a process tower in connection with a change at the factory from producing fertiliser to producing explosives for use in e.g. mine operation and construction of roads and buildings on rocky ground.
