Wire cutting at Frederiksværk Town Hall
An old emergency shelter in the town hall's basement was rebuilt into offices while the town hall remained in operation.
In connection with the merger of Frederiksværk and Hundested municipalities under Halsnæs municipality, an old emergency shelter in the basement of Frederiksværk Town Hall was refurbished into offices in 2006.
A good solution
MT Højgaard's task was to drill or cut out windows, access roads, doors and ventilation. Frederiksværk Town Hall is a modern building from the 1960s, where the walls in the emergency shelter were made of in-situ cast concrete and between 50 and 70 cm thick. Because of the thickness of the walls, MT Højgaard chose to execute the task with wire cutting.
The refurbishment work in the basement needed to be carried out while the town hall remained operational. The choice of wire cutting was a good solution because it makes less noise, and kept disturbance of the office workers to a minimum.
As often happens when work is carried out on old buildings, unforeseen things emerge which give rise to extra work. Despite this, the schedule was kept so that everything was prepared for carpenters, electricians etc who were involved in the task could start on their part of the job.
