Bridge connecting two islands in the Maldives
During summer 2012, MT Højgaard constructed a 780 metre long bridge between Rangali Island and a neighbouring island in the Maldives, for one of the best tourist resorts in the country.
Improving resort infrastructure
The Conrad Maldives resort consists of three islands, of which two are reserved for guests. Since the third island is used for service provision including laundry facilities, electricity generation and living quarters for staff, the owners needed to link the 'service island' with the resort's main island.
The bridge consists of 747 prefabricated concrete elements, which were produced at our own concrete foundry near the capital Male. The elements were then transported to Rangali Island, where construction took place.
Respect for guests
Since guests were staying at the resort throughout the construction period, every effort was made to keep noise and disturbance to an absolute minimum.
The resort maintained a 100% occupancy rate while we were working, and the feedback we received from both the owners and guests was unanimously positive. At no time were we asked to suspend work.
Other projects on the Maldives
We have been present on the Maldives since 1999 and have carried out more than 30 projects in the country. We have established ourselves as a well-run autonomous business, which delivers high quality on schedule.
