Water treatment plant in Bangladesh
When we complete the construction of a new water treatment plant in Bangladesh at the beginning of 2013, it will bring clean drinking water to large parts of the capital Dhaka, resulting in fewer diseases and lower child mortality for the citizens in this area.
Water treatment plan for DWASA
We are designing and constructing the water treatment plant for Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (DWASA). The project, which is 90% financed by Danida (Danish International Development Assistance) and 10% by the Government of Bangladesh, is being carried out in a consortium with the French firm Dégremont SA.
Clean drinking water
MT Højgaard has 40 people stationed in Bangladesh. Together with locally employed labour, it is our principal task to design and construct a water treatment plant which can treat up to 225 million litres of surface water every 24 hours.
The surface water in the area is highly polluted. When the water treatment plant has been completed in 2013, the clean drinking water will result in fewer diseases and lower child mortality for the citizens in the area.
Pre-treatment plant and water supply pipeline
As part of the water treatment plant project, we will also construct a large pre-treatment plant with a capacity to process up to 450 million litres of water every 24 hours, corresponding to more than 5 cubic metres per second.
In addition, we will design and install a 10 km water supply pipeline with a diameter ranging from 600 mm to 1,000 mm. Installing the pipeline through the very densely populated and heavily trafficked city centre is one of the challenges of this job.
Operation and maintenance for three years
The contract also includes design and construction of buildings for the administration and operation of the plants. When all the plants and buildings have been handed over, our French partner will operate and maintain the entire plant for a period of three years.
