Nuuk Center
The largest building in Greenland is currently being constructed in Nuuk by MT Højgaard. The retail store building will be 10 floors high and presents major logistics challenges.
Greenland's largest building will be an office and retail store centre on Store Slette in Nuuk. The 10 storey centre will cover 25,000 m², comprising a 12,000 m² shopping mall on two floors, a 6,000 m² basement and an eight storey office tower of around 7,000 m². MT Højgaard is managing the project which is scheduled for completion in mid-May 2012.
Logistic challenge
As part of the project, 5,000 tons of concrete elements, 1,000 tons of steel plus other materials will be transported to Greenland by ship. The materials will be stored at the construction site and in other places in the city until they are needed. Before winter 2011-2012 the building shell will be completed, so that fitting-out can be done in dry conditions.
Distinctive office tower
The office tower of Nuuk Center will make the building one of the most notable in Nuuk, with its sloping lines and matt white facades which symbolise snow, icebergs and the water surface of the Nuuk fjord. The centre will be built of concrete and steel, with facades of aluminium panels and glass. The office section has been sold to the administration of Greenland's autonomous government, and the largest player in the shopping centre will be Pisiffik, which is Dagrofa's subsidiary in Greenland.
