Slotsarkaderne in Hillerød
Extra consideration for customers and shop operation was a special requirement when Slotsarkaderne in Hillerød was rebuilt in 2006. The client had good experience with MT Højgaard's work, which was why we were chosen.
Slotsarkaderne is a shopping centre with about 50 shops, which lies in Hillerød's pedestrian street. It was built in 1992 and has previously been judged Northern Europe's most attractive shopping centre.
The centre has been expanded and modernised several times since it was built, and MT Højgaard has been involved every time - most recently in 2006.
The task was to construct a new extension and the consequent rebuilding of the connecting building sections and shops. The expansion totalled 7,000 m2 of the shopping centre, a basement and a car park on the roof, so that after the expansion, Slotsarkaderne covered a total of 25,000 m2.
Special considerations
The rebuilding of the centre was carried out during opening hours, and so special considerations were made so that the centre's daily operation could run as smoothly as possible.
Many customers find it interesting to follow the rebuilding and watch the activities on the construction site at close range, so great care was taken over access roads and fencing to ensure that customers were not put at risk during the excavations. MT Højgaard has experience with shop construction and was prepared for these challenges when Slotsarkaderne was rebuilt.
MT Højgaard has executed work several times for the client, Steen & Strøm Danmark A/S, which has good experience with the collaboration. In addition to giving due consideration to the centre's staff and customers, MT Højgaard also takes care to continuously provide information and resolve any issues that might arise – which is why we were chosen to carry out this rebuilding work.
