Spinderiet, Valby
As part of a unique urban regeneration project, MT Højgaard constructed the shopping, office and apartment complex Spinderiet in 2005-2007. The project comprised building the complex as well as the infrastructure around it.
In the central part of Valby, between Valby Station and Valby Langgade, lies Spinderiet. The name originates from the project being based on rebuilding and total refurbishment of the old cotton mill that lies by Valby Station. A new city area was created with five new buildings in harmony with the old cotton mill.
Unique urban regeneration project
MT Højgaard constructed the unique buildings. Spinderiet is a combined shopping, office and apartment complex created by TK Development. The urban regeneration project was carried out in close collaboration with both Valby City District Council and the City of Copenhagen.
A 2,700 m2 glass canopy at 4th storey height binds the shops together. The roofed-over streets are open at the ends which give the area lightness and a unique spacious effect. On the inner streets, MT Højgaard laid 2,000 m2 of granite pavement, while the square features 1,000 m2 of granite paving tiles in a trapezoid pattern.
Traffic lights, cycle lane and car park
MT Højgaard also established traffic lights for the City of Copenhagen to ensure access to Spinderiet. The contract also included new sewerage, a cycle lane and a pavement. An underground car park and a multi-storey car park were also established.
In total the project comprised 8,400 m2 of roads and squares, 700 m2 of cycle lane and 1,700 m2 of pavement.
