Rhyl Flats Offshore Wind Farm

MT Højgaard has designed, supplied and installed the 25 foundations for the Rhyl Flats Offshore Wind Farm located at the North Wales Coast in the United Kingdom.

The design and fabrication works for the foundations took place during the second half of 2007, and installation of the foundations was carried out during the spring/summer of 2008.

Design and installation of the foundations are based on the traditional monopile concept with a large-diameter tubular steel pile inserted in the ground and a steel transition piece, with a standard flange connection to the turbine tower, placed and grouted on top/around of the monopile.

All the foundations were temporarily stored at Mostyn harbour. After insertion of plugs the monopiles were floated to site. The transition pieces were transported to site on barges. Installation of the foundations took place by the use of the large floating crane "Svanen"
