The Blue Planet – Denmark's new aquarium
"The Blue Planet" is the name of Denmark's new aquarium, which will open to visitors in spring 2013. We are constructing this ambitiously conceived building, which will be one of Northern Europe's largest and most modern aquariums.
Shaped like a whirlpool
The new aquarium, located at Kastrup Harbour in Tårnby municipality, will have a floor area of 10,000 square metres. Its whirlpool-shaped design has been created by architectural firm 3xN, with engineering firm Moe & Brødsgaard as consultants.
The building will have a unique location close to Copenhagen Airport, the Øresund Bridge, the Metro and Amager Strandpark.
Quality constantly in focus
The many extraordinary aquatic environments in The Blue Planet will provide a great test of our civil engineering skills. We will continuously evaluate the quality of our work down to the smallest detail, to ensure that we can hand over The Blue Planet without defects or deficiencies.
Experience in aquarium construction
MT Højgaard has built aquariums before. We expanded the Fisheries and Maritime Museum in Esbjerg with aquariums and a sealarium, and constructed the first Denmark's Aquarium, which is located in Charlottenlund, north of Copenhagen.
