Ballen Ferry Port

Ballen Ferry Port
In addition to 600m of pier, the design and build contract comprised the construction of a new 300m access road to the port, 20,000 m2 of parking facilities, a pre-boarding area and a passenger services building. We also constructed a 100m long L-shaped docking area as well as a 34,000m2 dock, 5.5m deep.
When we built Ballen Ferry Port we opted for a simple and robust design, which would support our objective of constructing a new port that would be fully operational within six months.

Protective piers
The port is protected by stone piers constructed of broken rock, weighing up to three tonnes, with the outer piers being finished with pier heads. We also established a new waterway and a dock. Access is controlled by lighthouses as well as a PEL sector light.
Docking Area
At Ballen Ferry Port, we constructed a 100m long L-shaped docking area that is equipped with bollards, rescue ladders and the like. We also laid the foundations for ramps both for vehicles and for passengers, as well as bunkering facilities and automatic ticketing machines.

Roads and holding areas
Ferry passengers arrive at the port via an access road with a cycle path. Within the port area, we constructed a waiting area equipped with charging stations. All roads and parking areas in and around the port are illuminated by LED lighting.
