Morbærhaven
Accommodation units for 1,063 young people in Albertslund have been refurbished to improve energy efficiency and provide a better indoor climate

Extensive refurbishment
The housing complex for young people in Morbærhaven was built in 1945 and required upgrading in terms of the environment, energy and indoor climate.
MT Højggaard has been the design-build contractor responsible for the refurbishment of Morbærhaven, and we have been responsible for replacing the Eternit roofs on all 1,063 units, four central buildings and 91 bicycle sheds.
Furthermore, we have been responsible for establishing a new decentralised ventilation plant, insulating the foundations, removing the baldachins containing asbestos, new ceilings in entrance halls and bathrooms, dismantling seven closed stairways, improving the terrain surfacing and installing solar panels.

Significant design and planning requirements
There are significant demands on the design of the building site and the planning of the building processes whenever we renovate a site where the residents continue to lead their daily lives. Since the renovation of Morbærhaven took place while the occupants were living in their apartments, we had to ensure that the design of the building site and building processes had minimum impact on their daily lives.
Because the housing units at Morbærhaven are very close together, we developed solutions that ensured we could transport the façade elements and roof cladding around the narrow path system in the area without causing any inconvenience to residents. At the same time, the solutions reduced the risk of industrial accidents.
