Hear Chris talk about his experience

As a student assistant or intern, you will have an eventful job where no two days are the same. This was also the case for Chris, who shares what everyday life is like with us at MT Højgaard Danmark.

Chris went from intern to project manager

Many of MT Højgaard Danmark’s interns continue as student assistants after completing their internship. Several are also given the opportunity to stay with the company in a full-time position once they have finished their studies.

One of those who has made the full journey from internship to a management position is Chris Storm Nielsen, who is now a project manager in the shell construction area on Zealand.

“I graduated as a Bachelor of Engineering from DTU in 2020. In my fifth semester, I had to do an internship. One of our external lecturers was from MT Højgaard Danmark, and he helped me secure a position on the Ny Islands Brygge School project, where I first helped with tender work and later assisted the production manager. I prepared working drawings for the tradespersons and carried out quality assurance of concrete and reinforcement.

The production manager was a fantastic mentor. We sat side by side, so I could ask him whenever I needed help. That gave me a sense of security when I came straight from university and suddenly found myself out on site. After my internship, I became a student assistant and helped complete the shell construction. It has given me a practical introduction to in-situ work and installation.”

But that was not the end of Chris’s journey. After he completed his studies, a full-time position as a production manager in the shell construction area became available. For MT Højgaard Danmark, Chris was an obvious choice.

And when Chris later impressed in this role, he was promoted to project manager. That is the title he holds today, leading the shell construction on one of MT Højgaard Danmark’s largest construction projects on Zealand.
