Giving new life to 1940s townhouses while preserving their heritage

We are carrying out a comprehensive renovation of 397 rental homes in Brønshøj for KAB/SAB. Under a turnkey contract, we are renovating the properties both inside and out, meaning residents can soon look forward to new bathrooms, upgraded façades, a new roof, modern technical installations and much more.

1940s townhouses brought back to life with respect for their heritage

In August 2026, we will begin the renovation of Humlevænget, Department 3007, in Brønshøj for SAB, managed by KAB. The housing association comprises 397 townhouses with private gardens, five commercial units with associated residential accommodation, and a day-care centre – all located within easy reach of both the S-train network and green recreational areas such as Utterslev Mose.

The townhouses are distributed across 35 housing blocks, which we will renovate over a period of approximately four years, beginning in August 2026. Throughout the project, all residents will be temporarily rehoused while their homes undergo extensive upgrades, including new bathrooms, technical installations, façades, roofs and basement stairways.

Focus on residents, heritage and preserved facades

Residents living in the affected homes will be temporarily rehoused during the construction works. Rehousing will take place block by block, meaning that each housing block will be fully vacated before work begins. Residents will move back only once the entire block has been completed. Throughout the project, we will remain focused on respecting residents’ homes and minimising disruption as much as possible.

The same respect extends to the buildings’ preserved façades, which have been assigned a preservation value of category 3. This means that the architectural character of the buildings must be maintained and that any changes to elements such as the façades require approval from the City of Copenhagen. The renovation will therefore be carried out with great respect for the more than 85 years of history embodied in the red brick buildings.
