Valby Cloudburst Tunnel
2,400-metre cloudburst tunnel in Valby

Extensive excavation work
Before excavating the shafts down to depths of 20-26 metres, we will install uplift anchors and carry out groundwater lowering. In total, we will tunnel 2,397 metres from shaft bottom to shaft bottom, divided into three sections measuring 306, 798 and 1,293 metres respectively. Over the project's lifespan, approximately 70,000 tonnes of soil will be removed.
As the name suggests, the Valby Cloudburst Tunnel will protect the local area from increasing water levels in the Copenhagen region. Primarily, the cloudburst tunnel will function as an underground reservoir, capable of storing large volumes of overflow water from the sewers until it can be pumped to the treatment facility. In extreme cases, however, the tunnel will also be able to divert cloudburst water to Kalveboderne near Sydhavnstippen.
