376 homes from the 1960s are being modernised in Copenhagen’s North West district

For AAB Housing Association, we are carrying out a comprehensive renovation of Department 49 on Stærevej in Copenhagen’s North West district. The project is being delivered under a main contract and comprises the renovation of 376 homes built in the 1960s, distributed across four high-rise buildings and five residential blocks, as well as a major infrastructure project covering a total of 23,000 m².

The project is a comprehensive renovation supported by the Danish National Building Fund and designed to future-proof the homes. As part of the scheme, 50 homes will be merged, while all renovated homes will receive new kitchens, bathrooms, technical installations, windows, balcony doors and balcony solutions.

Comprehensive renovation focused on safety and future-proofing

The project is being carried out in phases with close resident coordination, as the people living there will stay throughout the construction period. As part of the masterplan, the renovation is combined with a major infrastructure project and a range of initiatives designed to enhance safety, strengthen connectivity and create better surroundings for residents.

The project includes a new 400 m² community centre, new playgrounds and a continuous pedestrian route with shared outdoor areas connecting the high-rise buildings and lower residential blocks. In addition, the connection between Stærevej and Gråspurvevej will be improved, while new lighting and secure balcony solutions will help increase safety throughout the neighbourhood.
